Rapichan Phurisamban is a Vanier Scholar, a Public Scholar, and a PhD candidate at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES) at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her interdisciplinary research, rooted in community-based fieldwork, critically examines the relationalities of river flows with an aim to contribute to more inclusive, equitable, and bioculturally-conscious river governance and management. Her interests span fields of political ecology, cultural geography, development studies, decolonial studies, and science and technology studies (STS). She holds a master's degree in human geography from the University of Zurich, a master of public policy from the University of California at Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of British Columbia.
