Dr. Chaya Vaddhanaphuti is a Lecturer in Geography at Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University.
Chaya’s background is in human geography, with special attention to relational geography, landscape and science & technology studies (STS). He is interested in the idea of nature-culture relationship, especially the human dimension of climate change. His research explores what the everyday weather and the so-called “climate change” culturally and historically mean in Thai and Southeast Asian contexts.
His recent research involved ethnographic studies, interviews and developing games to try to tease out what people think, talk and do when the weather becomes abnormal, based on their livelihoods and cultures. He also explores the making of climate change knowledge and policy in context of Thailand. Lately, he becomes more interested in the ideas of Anthropocene and more-than-human/posthuman geographies.
